12 Self PoRtraits
Process
ComPleTed Works (In Chronological Order to show Improvement)
Process/Reflection: My main goal when starting this project was to improve my drawing skills when it came to self portrait, so that I could make another self portrait that would be an improvement from the one I did last year. I also wanted to experiment with different drawing styles to find my preferred style. During the summer I watched a documentary about the Egyptian protests and the rise and falls of different dictator that these protests caused. These protesters used a graffiti style/pop art style stencils to express their views on the different dictators. I thought that these styles looked really interesting and I used it as inspiration for my fifth and eleventh pieces (in chronological order). I'm not very good at making realist pieces, so I decided to kind of create a style I'm comfortable with by making a hybrid style from realism, art nouveau and some aspects of pop art. I think this project was a good experience, because as you can see from the order of the pieces, I found styles that I'm comfortable with and I improved on them.
ACT Questions:
1. The inspiration that I applied to these just the desire to better my drawing skills. I think that this desire really helped me push myself to making drawings I could be proud of.
2. I created this with a "practice makes perfect" approach. I think this was what allowed me to succeed.
3. I have demonstrated that you can actually progress a lot with just a lot of passion and desire. I will probably use this an inspiration for an art piece soon, the whole if you try your hardest you can do it idea.
4.I don't have one central idea or style that outlines these pieces. It's more of just me experimenting different styles to find what I'm most comfortable with.
5. While applying different styles I have found that I'm comfortable with semi-realistic styles. Sort of similar to art styles like art nouveau or pop art, in which realism is mixed with beautification and simplification of features.
